Chelsea will be looking to keep pace with the two Manchester clubs by taking maximum points from their clash with Southampton on Wednesday evening.

The Blues go into the game in good form, having won five of their last six Premier League encounters.

In third position, the west Londoners are currently 14 points off league leaders Manchester United, but do have a game in hand.

Home form under new manager Rafa Benitez remains an issue however - the European champions have failed to score in four of six league and cup matches since the Spaniard took charge.

Captain John Terry could start his first match after being ruled out since November with a knee injury, following his substitute appearance in last week's 4-0 win away at Stoke.

Fellow centre-back Gary Cahill could also be back after missing the Potters game due to the birth of his son.

Chelsea brushed aside the Saints 5-1 in the FA Cup earlier this month, but the south coast outfit have actually been in fairly decent league form.

Nigel Adkins' side won their last match 1-0 against Aston Villa, having drawn three games prior to that.

This has seen the Saints move up into 15th position, although they remain just two points clear of the relegation zone.

For the visitors, Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka will be unavailable for the next month or so due to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Full-back Luke Shaw is out with an injured knee, while Jose Fonte and Adam Lallana remain sidelined.
