Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi omitted some big names from his squad for South Africa, including Taye Taiwo, Peter Odemwingie and Martins.

It's former Newcastle United striker Martins, currently playing in Spain with Levante, who will be most sorely missed, Babangida told MTNfootball.

The former Ajax Amsterdam winger points out that experience can be crucial at big tournaments.

"His experience would be missed in South Africa. Even though we are looking for younger players, his current form shows he needs to be there.

"Don't forget at the France 1998 World Cup the late.Rashidi Yekini was included due to his experience so that if things didn't go well with Victor (Ikpeba) and co in the strike force, we could easily call up his experience."

Martins has netted six goals in 14 matches in La Liga this season.
