Henan were demoted at the end of the 2012 Chinese Super League season after finishing bottom of the 16-team division.

Katongo, 30, has however stated his intention to stay at the club.

"I want to be honest with you, I am going to stay," he told MTNfootball.

"It is difficult for a team to buy you if you have one year left and by the time I go back I will have 10 months left so it's better I spend six months there and see where I go from there," he added.

Katongo has been in China since 2011. The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations-winning skipper previously played at Skoda Xanthi (Greece), Arminia Bielefeld (Germany), Brøndby (Denmark) and Jomo Cosmos.
