Martin Jol's side needed a superb strike from Greek Captain Giorgios Karagounis to save them the blushes of a third round exit the first time the sides met at Craven Cottage. the Dutchman will no doubt demand a better performance from his side this time around.

He will, however, have to make do without the services of the injured Simon Davies (neck), Mahamadou Diarra (knee) and Kerim Frei (groin) who are all expected to miss the match.

Mark Schwarzer and Damien Duff returned against Wigan at the weekend and will most likely maintain their places in the starting line-up.

Steven Sidwell though will face late fitness test ahead of the match after he missed the Latics' clash with a Hamstring injury.

The Cottagers have been on a poor run of late, having won just once in their last five matches and currently sit in 13th place on 25 points in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Steve Thompson enters his second spell as caretaker of the Tangerines after Michael Appleton left to take over Blackburn Rovers last week.

The Englishman may welcome back Gary Taylor-Fletcher to the starting line-up, after the midfielder recovered from his back injury.

Thompson might choose to pair regular striker Nathan Delfounso, who set up Ludovic Sylvestre's goal at Craven Cottage, with Nathan Eccleston who scored a late consoliation goal in the 2-1 loss away to Charlton on Saturday.

Wes Thomas, on-loan from Bournemouth, is cup-tied, while 39-year-old Kevin Phillips may be rested after playing 80 mins against the Addicks at the weekend.

The Seasiders haven't won in five games and sit in 15th place on 34 points in the Championship table.
