Pat Noonan has been named Major Soccer League club LA Galaxy's new assistant coach with the former USA forward having decided to retire.

The 32-year-old has opted to hang up his playing boots after 10 appearances for Galaxy in 2012 to help them to their second straight league title.
With 15 international caps between 2005 and 2008, the 10-year MLS veteran also won the league crown with the Columbus Crew five years ago.
Noonan now joins Bruce Arena's coaching staff ahead of the new season, with the Missouri native delighted for the his new job opportunity.
"I have the utmost respect for Bruce and all the coaches here with the Galaxy and could not think of a better club with which to begin my coaching career," Noonan told Galaxy's official website.
"I am truly grateful for the all the things that I have been able to experience and all of the wonderful people that I was able to meet during my 10 years playing this game professionally.
"I look forward to continuing that journey as I begin the next chapter of my soccer career."
