Barcelona continued their brilliant league form this season as they overcame a potential banana skin with a 3-1 win away at Malaga.

It was the home side who started best, as Ignacio Camacho narrowly missed after 11 minutes with a fierce right footed shot from the edge of the area.

The effort seemed to spark Barca into life and they eventually took the lead through Lionel Messi, who fired home from the centre of the box on the half hour.

The Catalans then really took the initiative and went close to doubling their lead, first through Messi and then Cesc Fabregas who went close with a curling effort from the edge of the area.

However, it was only a matter of time before the Blaugrana scored again and they finally got their reward in the 50th minute as Fabregas latched onto Messi's through ball and finished coolly past Willy Caballero.

Barca continued to dominate possession, with Xavi and Sergio Busquets pulling the strings in the midfield and they eventually scored a third, with Thiago Alcantara finding the net with a well struck left footed shot.

Malaga did grab a consolation in the final minute through Diego Buonanotte but in truth they were no match for Tito Vilanova's men who claimed their 18th win in 19 league matches this season and in the process maintained their eleven point lead at the top of the table.
