Jupp Heynckes and his side have endured two trophyless seasons during this period of success for Dortmund, but have started this season in fine form, losing just one of their first 17 games to find themselves 12 points ahead of Jurgen Klopp's team.

They have also made good progress in the cup competitions, topping their group in the Champions League and making the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

Klopp believes his side have been a major influence in Bayern's resurgence.

"We have been winding Bayern up for two years, We have really charged them up," the 45-year-old told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"The new approach they have taken with a new director of sport (Matthias Sammer) and their transfer activities also have a bit to do with us.

"You could say we have been pulling their elastic for two years, and all they had to do was release themselves from it."

The former Mainz man insists though that his team are not content to playing second fiddle to the Bavarians.

"We just want to achieve something outstanding once again."

Klopp has, however, conceded that the league may be out of reach for the Borussians and says it will take a massive collapse if they are to defend their title for the second successive season.

"If they (Bayern) don't shoot themselves in the foot now, then there is no taking the title away from them this season."
