South Africa drew 0-0 with Algeria on Saturday night, creating more fodder for critics of the team who have now seen Bafana failing to score in their last two games.

But Igesund remained relatively upbeat after the stalemate with the Desert Foxes, who as he points out, are highly formidable opposition.

"We've still got work to do," he said, "But we're getting better and better as we go along - we are working hard on it and we are going to be ready for the first game.

"It was a very tactical game, I thought were in control of it and credit to the players, they played very, very well tonight.

"We need to be happy with the performance, the guys were outstanding, the subs came on and did a good job. Credit to the guys we played with a lot of passion we played with a lot of commitment.

"You have got to remember we played the team ranked second in Africa, they are huge favourites for this tournament and I thought we were the better team tonight."

Igesund did, however, admit that his players need to show a vast improvement in the final third of the field, both in terms of carving out opportunities and in converting those chances.

"We never missed chances today, we didn't create as many as we would've liked to though," he continued.

"That's going to come (scoring goals). Each week we are getting better and better.

"We got in behind them, there was some good action [around the box] but you saw the nature of the opponent and their keeper made one or two good saves."
