Tevez: Fired up

Carlos Tevez claims Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini's praise for Manchester United's Robin van Persie has given him inspiration to succeed this season.

Mancini recently expressed his disappointment in losing the race for Van Persie's signature, who he believes could prove to be the difference in the title race.

Van Persie is the Premier League's current leading scorer with 16 goals which has helped United sit atop of the table and seven points ahead of City.

Tevez, however, insists the Citizens are still in the hunt to retain their title, and believes Mancini's comments have spurred on the English champions' frontline.

"Those words were a motivation for the strikers, We know that we need to carry on fighting. United lost some games last season and we were back on track, so we will keep doing our job." the Argentine said.

"There's a long way to go and a lot of games to play. The emotion of the Premier League means it's always a fight to the end.

"If United lose one game, we'll be getting close to them. They will know that.

"We want to keep winning, to keep fighting for the title. I will try to help us to compete on both fronts, the Premier League and FA Cup, and try to win both."

City face Arsenal this weekend at the Emirates Stadium hoping to take all three points and keep the gap at seven, or cut into the Red Devils' lead should Sir Alex Ferguson's men slip up against Liverpool.
