Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful that Sunday's meeting at Old Trafford with bitter rivals Liverpool will be all about the football.

The North West derby between United and the Reds is one of the fiercest rivalries in club football.

It also has the second-highest red card tally of all fixtures in the Premier League era, which includes Jonjo Shelvey's dismissal at Anfield earlier this season.

Last term's meeting in Manchester made headlines for all the wrong reasons when Luis Suarez refused to shake Patrice Evra's hand prior to kick-off.

Ferguson believes there will always an inevitable tension ahead of a match between the two sides, but hopes they can put the drama of last season behind them.

"There will always be a certain build-up to a Manchester United-Liverpool game, simply because of the history between the two clubs, the two most successful in the country," the Scot told Inside United.

"It brings its own agenda in terms of profile and pre-match discussion.

"Last year it was unfortunate with the Suarez behaviour.

"I think hopefully it is behind both clubs now and we can just look forward to the game."
