The 22-year-old Italian, who joined Newcastle United from Inter in the summer of 2011, is among a number of young players the Rossoneri are scouting as they look to build a more youthful and dynamic squad at the San Siro.

Another name that has been mooted as a possible arrival at the Italian giants is AS Roma's Mattia Destro, who has four goals in 10 games this season.

The arrival of these two players could well assist Milan in their quest to once again be a force in both the Serie A and on the continent.

"We will build a team with young players who can help AC Milan to be a leader in Italy and in Europe," Berlusconi told Mediaset Sport.

"Davide Santon and Destro? I gave my world to (Milan vice-president) Adriano Galliani I wouldn't reveal any names, but these are players we like."

The former Italian Prime Minister was also somewhat unclear when discussing manager Massimiliano Allegri's future at the club.

"Allegri? I have a great relationship with Allegri, a relationship of friendship and cordiality," Berlusconi added. "He can leave? Much depends on the results that he will obtain."
