The Senegal international completed his £7million move from Newcastle on Friday and was immediately named in the starting line-up for the trip to St Mary's the following day.
Ba opened his account in the 35th minute to level the tie - after Jay Rodriguez had fired the Saints in front on 22 minutes - and added his second 16 minutes after the break as the Blues went on to claim a 5-1 victory.
While there is doubt whether the equaliser was truly his, the 27-year-old striker could not have been more pleased with his overall performance.
"I don't think I have made a debut like that before. That's a great one and I'm pleased, I'm going to enjoy it a little bit," he told reporters after the match.
"It's great, when you see the fans they show you they're happy for you and the team-mates when they come and congratulate you it's a good feeling.
"The three behind me make football look easy. I just try to run in behind and try to create space as well for them.
"I know when they have some space they will be very dangerous."
Ba also denied any suggestion that he was going to challenge Frank Lampard for the penalty to get a debut hat-trick, jesting: "I'm not that crazy."
