The Black Cats offered little resistance throughout and aided the home side through some poor defending.
Sterling broke the deadlock after 19 minutes, delicately lobbing Simon Mignolet in the Sunderland goal.
Sunderland tried to respond quickly and had their best chance of the game through James McClean, who fluffed his lines when one-on-one with Reds keeper Jose Reina.
Liverpool made the visitors pay for this miss as seven minutes after scoring their first, they grabbed their second when Suarez darted into the area before stabbing home from close range.
Sunderland offered little resistance after this and the second half was all one-way traffic. The home side grabbed their third through Suarez in the 52nd minute, with Steven Gerrard's pass slicing the Sunderland backline to let the Uruguayan in.
Both Glen Johnson and Joe Allen had the ball in the back of the net in the final 15 minutes but the offside flag denied them.
In truth, it could have been more but Reds manager Brendan Rodgers will be pleased with his side, who notched up their first set of back-to-back wins of the season. Meanwhile, Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill will be far from happy with his team, who crashed to their second successive defeat after losing to Tottenham over the weekend.
