The Citizens were excellent from the off, with the lively Sergio Aguero going close three times in the opening 10 minutes and it looked as if it was going to be a true walkover.

It was his compatriot Pablo Zabaleta who finally opened the scoring on 42 minutes, poking home into an empty net following great work from James Milner to send the hosts in 1-0 up at the break.

The second half continued in very much the same vein, with the Citizens pouring forward and it was Edin Dzeko who went closest with a magnificent volley from distance that only just went over the bar.

City weren't to be denied though and the Bosnian eventually got on the score sheet after 56 minutes, passing the ball home after Asmir Begovic had spilled Sergio Aguero's shot.

The champions continued to press on and found the net again on 74 minutes, with Sergio Aguero sneaking a penalty home after David Silva had been brought down by Steven N'Zonzi's challenge.
