The Cottagers have been abysmal of late, picking up just five points from the last eight top-flight encounters with Saturday's 2-1 loss to Swansea leaving them in 14th place on 21 points, just four shy of the relegation zone.

The Baggies are also looking to return to winning ways following their 2-0 defeat at Manchester United on the weekend, although they are just outside the European places in seventh spot on 33 points after an impressive start to the season.

In team news, Albion boss Steve Clarke will hand a number of his players fitness tests ahead of the clash at the Hawthorns.

Jonas Olsson (groin), Steven Reid (ankle), Goran Popov, Youssouf Mulumbu and Claudio Yacob (all hamstring) sat out the loss to United, and the quintet are all considered doubtful for the visit of the west Londoners.

George Thorne could get another chance to impress in midfield after he featured at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Mark Schwarzer could return for the visitors after missing Saturday's 2-1 reverse to Swansea with a neck injury.

David Stockdale deputised for the Australian between the sticks, but he was less than impressive, and manager Martin Jol is hoping Schwarzer will be fit to feature on Wednesday.

Damien Duff is rated doubtful, while Mahamadou Diarra and Mladen Petric remain sidelined through injury.
