The 23-year-old recorded his second three-goal haul of the season to help the Gunners clinch a 7-3 victory over the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium.

But with his contract at the north London club set to expire at the end of the current campaign, Walcott's future still remains very much up in the air.

Arsene Wenger admitted after the game he is desperate to see the matter resolved, and the England international is confident of a positive outcome, although he will not let the situation affect his game.

"I will continue to play my football," the young star told BBC Sport. "Talks are ongoing and I'm sure something will be sorted soon."

Walcott has always expressed his desire to play up front for Wenger's side on a regular basis and his latest hat-trick has certainly given his manager food for thought.

He added on ESPN: "I enjoy playing in whatever position but it was just telling the manager to give me the opportunities to play up front.

"I'm not saying I'm always going to play up front but it's just showing what I can do but hopefully I've opened a few eyes and it's just a different option. Hopefully, I can start to take it a bit more often now."
