The Olympique Marseille playmaker had to play under duress during the 2012 edition of the Nations Cup, having picked up a shoulder injury at the tournament.
Ayew then missed the end of last season in France, having spent three months out after undergoing surgery in March.
The 23-year-old has not yet been at his best this season in Ligue 1, struggling to find his form after last season's setback.
"I struggled to come back and I just started to find my rhythm. I'm not at my best but I think 2013 will be quite different and better than 2012. And I will make sure to avoid getting hurt at the Nations Cup," he said.
"The injury bothered me a lot in my style of play but paradoxically it made me learn another way of playing," Ayew continued. "I love going to dribble but also protect the ball back and for that, I need my arms."
