Mancini: Work to be done

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits he needs to quickly find a solution to the team's striking woes, but insists bringing in a new forward is not one of his options.

The Citizens boast a world-class strike force, with Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko leading the line for the Premier League champions.

However, the quartet have managed just three goals between them in City's last eight matches, a poor run which culminated in their 1-0 defeat to Sunderland on Boxing Day.

That result saw rivals Manchester United open up a seven-point lead over City at the top of the standings heading into the final round of fixtures for 2012, leaving Mancini with plenty of work to do ahead of the new year.

"We still have a big problem that we don't score, and we need to change," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"Maybe we need to play without a striker, or with just one striker. We need to do something. If we want to win this championship we need to score like we did last year.

"We have top strikers, but maybe we are too soft when we get a chance because we think we have good players and maybe we feel we will score the next chance that comes along.

"We have four top strikers, and it is time that those top strikers started to score. That is what they are there for, to score goals."
