The Real captain was a surprise omission from the first team at La Rosaleda on Saturday night as Mourinho opted to start with Antonio Adan in goal.
However, the decision backfired somewhat as Los Merengues conceded three times, although Adan wasn't at fault for any of the goals.
It was the defending champions' fourth loss of the season and left them a massive 16 points adrift of arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the La Liga standings going into the winter break.
Casillas, though, has responded positively by insisting he will work hard to regain his place in Mourinho's side, while declaring that the team always comes first.
"The coach decides which team he thinks is best for each match, and you need to accept the decision," the Spain skipper told La Sexta television.
"I'm not used to being a substitute, but above Iker Casillas or any player is the team. What I need to do is continue training and try to recover the confidence of the coach.
"It is the coach who decides who plays. It will be a nice battle with Antonio. There is a healthy rivalry between us."
He added: "Throughout the week, I could sense that I wasn't going to play, but it's not a setback. Mourinho didn't explain anything to me. He doesn't do it when I play, nor when I don't."
