The Portuguese tactician brought in the likes of Clint Dempsey, Moussa Dembele, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen in the previous transfer window during the off-season.

Spurs have failed to string together any consistent performances and with the London club being linked with Loic Remy, Willian and Joao Moutinho, Villas-Boas might be tempted to splash the cash once again.

However, the 34-year-old has moved to dispel any such talk.

"I don't think we need to do anything," said the former Chelsea boss. "We have Clint out. He is a massive player for us. He has had a big impact. He scored 17 goals last season so we have to count on him.

"He plays striker, plays wings and plays through the middle so he gives us that option. (Andros) Townsend the other day had a good game. Today we had opted for Sigurdsson coming in but I think we have options."

Brad Friedel, meanwhile, has left everyone guessing as to whether he could be moving on following talk he could return to former club Blackburn, having fallen down the Spurs pecking order in recent weeks.

He tweeted: "I know there has been quite a but of speculation regarding my future. All will be revealed in next couple of days:). Happy Holidays!!!"
