Perch's neck issue is only a minor one and should see him take his part in the centre of midfield once again. Gabriel Obertan also comes back into contention after toe surgery.

Yohan Cabaye (groin), Steven Taylor (both hamstrings) and Hatem Ben Arfa remain long-term casualties.

QPR have been dealt a double injury blow as both Julio Cesar and Jose Bosingwa have been ruled out with back problems.

The injury-prone duo of Kieron Dyer and Park Ji-sung have once again succumbed to injuries and will miss the match on Tyneside. Meanwhile, Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora continue their long-term rehabilitation.

This is a match that Magpies manager Alan Pardew has admitted is an absolute must win for his side as they attempt to arrest their alarming slump which sees them occupy 15th position in the standings.

Meanwhile, the Hoops will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league to five matches - a streak that has seen them finally move off the bottom of the table.
