Brendan Rodgers' side were looking in good form having lost just once in their previous 11 ahead of the clash with the Villans.

With last weekend's defeat, they have now lost twice in 12 and desperately need to move up the table.

The Reds are in 12th place with 22 points from 17. Despite the poor league position, they are still only six points off fourth place in the Premier League standings.

The Merseyside outfit have no real injury concerns, as Jose Enrique is set to return from a hamstring injury sustained against West Ham two weeks ago, while Oussama Assaidi is a doubt with a knee injury.

Fabio Borini (foot) and Martin Kelly (knee) are still long-term injury concerns.

The Cottagers are close behind their weekend opposition, just two points behind the Reds in 13th.

Martin Jol's side have been in a slump of late, winning just once in their last five, handing Queens Park Rangers their first win of the season in their last outing.

Brian Ruiz (hamstring), Mahamadou Diarra (knee) are only due back in training next week, while Simon Davies will not return until the new year.

Steve Sidwell will serve a one-match suspension after picking his fifth yellow card against QPR, while Sascha Riether could play at right-back after returning to training in the week.
