The Jamaican-born England international has been immense for a Reds team short of attacking options this season and was always expected to commit his future to the club.

A number of top clubs were alerted to his potential availability when, after turning 18 in December, Sterling was still yet to sign his first professional contract.

But the teenager should have no doubts over his importance to manager Brendan Rodgers after starting all but one of the Merseysiders' 17 Premier League games this campaign.

Sterling also earned his first national cap for the Three Lions in the 4-2 friendly defeat to Sweden in November. He had been called up for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in September but didn't play.

The youngster is expected to physically sign his new contract ahead of this weekend's top-flight clash with Fulham.
