The defending La Liga champions trail arch-rivals and league leaders Barcelona by 13 points after 16 games, having dropped two more points at the weekend following a 2-2 draw with Espanyol.

Real manager Jose Mourinho all but conceded defeat in the title race after Saturday's match, and Khedira admits they just haven't been able to find their feet this term, especially away from home.

"Our season is not worthy of a club like Real Madrid," the Germany international told Bild. "We cannot be content with how we have played so far. We have not found our rhythm since the start.

"There has never been a period when we have been doing well away from home. That is where we have lost lots of points. That cannot be, so we cannot be satisfied."

The 25-year-old has revealed that Los Merengues have shifted their focus to lifting a record 10th UEFA Champions League trophy, having qualified for the knockout stages as runners-up in Group D behind Borussia Dortmund.

He added: "At Madrid we have set a very clear goal. That is to win the Champions League."
