The Blues have already seen three pieces of silverware slip through their fingers already this season, having lost the Club World Cup final on Sunday after also having failed in the FA Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup at the start of the campaign.
Add to that their UEFA Champions League group stage exit and a 13-point difference between themselves and Premier League leaders Manchester United, and the west Londoners look like a club in deep trouble.
Lampard, though, believes patience is necessary when dealing with so many changes, which included a raft of new players being brought in, while also seeing Rafael Benitez appointed boss following the shock sacking of Roberto Di Matteo.
That change marked the third new manager in a year for the club, with Di Matteo having taken over from Andre Villas-Boas towards the end of last term.
"We worked very hard to get to the (Club World Cup) final," Lampard said in the Fulham & Hammersmith Chronicle.
"We changed the personnel quite a bit this year, and there's a bedding-in process. We changed the manager. There have been quite a few circumstances this year."
Lampard is reportedly preparing to bring an end to his 11-year association at Stamford Bridge as he is yet to sign a new deal with the club, despite having just over five months remaining on his current contract.
