The Morocco international scored both goals and was a constant threat to the Cottagers as Redknapp's side recorded their first win of the season, following 16 matches without a victory.

"It was one of the all-time great performances, I felt," Redknapp said. "Every time he picked the ball up he did the most amazing things.

"Everything he did was top class and the goals were the icing on the cake."

Taarabt now has 23 goals in 84 appearances for the west Londoners, with four of those coming this season.

His second goal on Saturday was a particularly memorable individual effort.

"[The finish] was amazing, to play it like he did in his stride. That is Adel," Redknapp explained. "He has the ability to be anything he wants to be. He is an amazing talent.

"I changed it [the formation] today. I just felt, although we might be a little more open, I wanted to get him [Taarabt] in that position in off the front where he can do damage in between the lines."

Redknapp and Taarabt previously worked together at Tottenham, but the midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements at that time.

Redknapp, though, claims he was not the person who decided to let the player go.

He said: "I sold him when I was at Tottenham and he knows he was not a player I wanted to sell.

"When he used to come back and see his mates at Tottenham I used to say: 'You are making me look a fool Adel, you are worth £20m now and I sold you too cheap."
