Hugo Rodallega headed a second-half winner for Fulham in a pulsating clash with Newcastle at Craven Cottage.
It was a lively encounter from the off with chances for both teams before Rodallega wasted a golden opportunity on 18 minutes, volleying over from close range.
But only a minute later Fulham were ahead thanks to Steve Sidwell. A move down the right ended with the midfielder hitting a first-time strike that deflected off Mike Williamson and nestled into the back of the net.
Dimitar Berbatov missed a glorious chance to double the lead when one-on-one with Tim Krul before, with 31 minutes gone, Fabricio Coloccini saw a header cleared off the line by Sascha Riether.
The same man stopped a Demba Ba effort from under his own crossbar on 44 minutes as Fulham went into the break with a one-goal lead.
Newcastle came out stronger in the second half and were level on 53 minutes, Hatem Ben Arfa hitting a curling effort from 25 yards out that went in off the underside of the bar and silenced Craven Cottage.
The visitors had the lead for only nine minutes before Rodallega struck. Former Newcastle man Damien Duff put in a free kick that the forward headed past Krul.
Newcastle pushed for an equaliser and Coloccini hit the post on 72 minutes before Shola Ameobi, Ba and Jonas Gutierrez all tested Mark Schwarzer, but Fulham held on for a valuable three points.
