This, after the Blues midfielder sustained a knee injury in Saturday's 3-1 win over Sunderland, which saw him leave the field in the first half.
Benitez will wait for the injury to be assessed before determining the extent of the problem, but he doubts that his compatriot will make the long flight to the Far East with the rest of the squad as things stand.
"He is going to London and then the doctor will have to check and say what is going on," said the Spanish tactician.
"But when a player leaves the pitch limping, to have to go to Japan right now I think it will be difficult for him. At the moment he must stay with the doctor and make sure everything is fine."
Romeu has made eight appearances in all competitions for the west Londoners this season and scored his first goal for the club in the 6-0 Carling Cup win over Wolves in September.
