Coentrao: Major doubt

Fabio Coentrao is a major doubt for Real Madrid ahead of their Spanish La Liga clash at Real Valladolid on Saturday evening.

The Portuguese left-back limped off in Real's 4-1 Champions League victory over Ajax on Tuesday night. Nacho came on to make only his third appearance for the club and could make another in the space of a week, should Coentrao fail a late fitness test.

Jose Mourinho is likely to welcome back the rested Sergio Ramos and Pepe in place of Raphael Varane and Ricardo Carvalho.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Arbeloa also returns to the squad having sat out the European tie through suspension. Marcelo remains a long-term absentee.

Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso are set to return - also having been rested - which could allow Luka Modric to play in a more advanced role following his superb display in midweek.

On the other hand, Valladolid have been boosted by the news that key duo Manucho and Marc Valiente have been given the green light following their recoveries from concussion and a muscle injury respectively.

However, talismanic defender Jesus Rueda will miss out, having suffered a long-term injury in last weekend's 2-1 win over Sevilla.

Los Merengues are still a daunting 11 points behind league leaders Barcelona.
