The Red Devils have already secured their progression to the knockout phase as Group H winners, having taken 12 points from their opening five matches.

The Railwaymen, meanwhile, have an outside chance to qualify for the last 16, but they need to win at Old Trafford and hope that last-placed SC Braga beat Galatasaray, who are tied on seven points with the Romanian champions.

United continued their trend of conceding first this season when they went behind at Reading on Saturday before going on to claim a 4-3 victory, and Ferguson will be hoping his defence stands firm in midweek.

In team news, the English giants could welcome back captain Nemanja Vidic after he came through a full training session following a spell on the sidelines due to knee surgery in September.

Ferguson could be tempted to give the 31-year-old a run-out against Cluj in the hope that he might feature in Sunday's Manchester derby.

However, the Scot is short of options in midfield, with Anderson (hamstring), Shinji Kagawa (knee), Nani (hamstring) and Antonio Valencia (thigh) all expected to sit this one out.

For the visitors, coach Paulo Sergio is still without star striker Ronny (ligaments) and midfielder Bakary Sare (broken leg) as his side look to pull off a surprise win at the Threatre of Dreams to give themselves a chance of advancing from the group stages.
