The Belgium international joined the Baggies on a season-long loan in August and is enjoying his stint in the Midlands having scored five goals in 12 Premier League appearances.

It has led to speculation that Benitez could be tempted to recall Lukaku in January as Fernando Torres continues to struggle in front of goal - he hasn't scored in the Premier League since October 6 against Norwich.

The Spanish tactician, though, believes it would be counter-productive to bring the 19-year-old striker back to Stamford Bridge earlier.

He told The Sun: "We know Romelu has been doing very well for West Brom.

"But it's maybe best for him to stay there where he is playing games for now, as it will be better for his future development."
