The Brazil international, who injured his foot in a training session in October, is adamant that his recovery hinges on his belief in his own abilities.
"I still consider myself the best left-back in the world," Marcelo told Globoesporte.
"I have to do this - to go on believing in myself and return to the side with more ambition than ever. I am dying to play again."
The 24-year-old is hopeful of returning to Jose Mourinho's squad in the New Year, after a two-month lay-off.
"[I hope to] get back to training with my team-mates at Real Madrid in January," he said.
"I was very scared, because during the first few days I had no feeling in my foot, my legs were trembling and I felt terrible, but little by little I am getting better."
Marcelo also spoke of his admiration for compatriot Roberto Carlos and how the former Real star served as an inspiration during his recovery.
"I always watched Roberto Carlos. I was with him at Real Madrid for six months, and he taught me a lot," he added.
"He is a great point of reference for me, and I want to be like him. Even today when I meet him I get nervous."
