The Russian club have no hope of qualifying for the last 16. However, the Scottish giants have every chance to progress.

Neil Lennon's side are level on points with Benfica, who travel to Group G winners Barcelona in the other tie.

But McGeady is putting past loyalties aside and wants to end the Hoops' dreams of progressing to the knock-out stage.

"Everyone is upset at recent results but we intend ending our bad run this week. Despite everything that's happened, I hope we can still win," he said in the Daily Record, before reflecting on Spartak's 4-2 defeat at home to Zenit St Petersburg in the Russian league on Saturday.

"We were all very disappointed with the Zenit result but, personally, I was delighted to be back playing after a spell out injured.

"We created enough chances to win the game but we didn't defend well enough against a very good team.

"Our main hope now for the rest of the season is that the fans don't desert us as we need them more than ever. I understand our fans are not in the best of moods right now but I would ask them to rally round the team at this difficult time."
