The Gunners are keen to avoid another situation where their best players run down their contracts and ultimately leave.
Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Robin van Persie all left the north London outfit in the space of two seasons in search of greener pastures.
Theo Walcott is the capital club's latest contract rebel after failing to reach an agreement with a little more than six months remaining on his current deal.
Wenger, though, believes Wilshere will not follow in these footsteps as negotiations are underway on an improved offer for the England midfielder.
"Jack has always been very committed to this club and I hope he will show that," Wenger told ESPN.
"There is only one way to show that and that is to commit your long-term future to the club. He still has two-and-a-half years left, which is quite a long time."
The Frenchman has also been convinced to try a fresh approach as he looks toward home-grown talent to become stars at the Emirates Stadium.
"It is not a coincidence by the work we have done that we have more good English players here now," he added.
"We look first at quality and if the quality is local it's even better because it gives you more guarantee of stability.
"English players who play for Arsenal are more likely to stay than foreign players, but first we look at quality."
