Alan Pardew's men have failed to win a single match in their last four league outings, drawing away to Liverpool and losing the other three to West Ham, Swansea and Southampton.

The Magpies have suffered a string of injuries as well and will have to contend without Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Dan Gosling, Jonas Gutierrez, Gabriel Obertan, Haris Vuckic and Ryan Taylor.

The Potters, meanwhile, are 16th in the standings, two points ahead of their midweek visitors and unbeaten in their last three.

Tony Pulis's side have also not lost any of their last 13 home matches, a run stretching back to February this year.

The Potters will be without long-throw specialist Rory Delap who is still out with a hernia injury.

Michael Owen is on the verge of returning but will face a late fitness test if he is to make the bench.

The only other injury concerns are that of Andy Wilkinson (muscle injury) and Marc Wilson (broken leg).

A win for either side could see them propelled into the top half of the table, depending on results elsewhere this week.
