PSG were taken over by Qatar Sports Investments two seasons ago and have been free-spending ever since.

With an increased transfer budget, the French outfit first splashed the cash on Javier Pastore, Jeremy Menez and Thiago Motta.

But this past off-season they went all out, bringing in Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a combined 62 million Euros, as well as Ezequiel Lavezzi for almost 29 million Euros, amongst others.

Despite a slow start to the season, the Parisian club are currently top of the Ligue 1 table, having won half of their league games this season.

Yet, Cruff questioned the methods the Carlo Ancelotti-led side are using to attain success.

"It is always possible to buy a team, just like PSG did. But spending a lot of money is not in the club's interest, except in the short-term," the former Ballon d'Or winner told French daily newspaper Le Parisien.

"With the big teams, like Ajax in the 1970s, [Arrigo] Sacchi's Milan or Barca, there was a lot of players born in the country or promoted from within the club.

"With this philosophy, we don't last two or three years, but eight or ten. That's the difference."
