Spurs have been rocked by racial abuse over the last week, with a fan having been stabbed before their Europa League clash against Lazio last week, while the north London club were also on the receiving end of anti-Jewish chants during the European encounter.
Villas-Boas' men were again the victims of abuse from the Hammers fans this weekend, with sections of the visiting crowd directing offensive chants towards the White Hart Lane faithful over the attack.
And while the Tottenham boss admits he did not hear exactly what had been uttered by the fans, he refused to be drawn into discussion over the matter.
"I prefer not to mar the performance with a situation like this," Villas-Boas said.
"You know the animosity there is between Tottenham and West Ham and as long as it doesn't reach stupidity it is a great, great rivalry of two London clubs.
"It would be extremely unfair for me to mar the performance of the players but understanding that a couple of situations are avoidable but we can't decipher the true meaning of what they were saying."
Preferring to focus on the result, the Portuguese tactician added: "I think it was a very good performance. We have been chasing a good, solid 90 minute performance for a while and we got it today very deservingly.
"It was extremely important to get back to winning ways - particularly against a team who has been doing well in a London derby."
