Goals from Adam Lallana and Gaston Ramirez saw Southampton cruise to a 2-0 home win over Newcastle to climb out of the bottom three on Sunday.
The home side took control of this Premier League clash hmidway through the first half and Newcastle simply couldn't come up with a response.
Jason Puncheon saw his low effort turned away by the legs of Tim Krul on 32 minutes, moments before Rickie Lambert rattled the crossbar with a long-range free-kick.
Two minutes later Lallana opened the scoring as he took advantage of some good fortune to roll home after a half clearance from Nathaniel Clyne's shot left keeper Krul well out of position.
Vurnon Anita failed to convert Newcaslte's best chance ten minutes after the restart when his low effort was well saved by Paulo Gazzaniga.
When Puncheon's low cross was spilled by Krul two minutes later Ramirez pounced to turn home from seven yards and give Southampton some breathing space.
Jose Fonte was imperious in defence for the home side and almost added a third when his header glanced off the crossbar seconds after Puncheon's shot had hit the base of the post.
It is a valuable three points for Southampton who are enjoying something of a revival in recent weeks, though for Alan Pardew and Newcastle the disappointing start in the league continues.
