Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is taking the positives from his side's 4-2 defeat to West Brom on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats lost yet again and will be aggrieved at having gifted the Baggies two goals from individual errors.

The Wearside club are sitting perilously close to the drop-zone and have won just two of their last twenty Premier League games.

But O'Neill is preferring to focus on their attacking display.

"We have been beaten, but we look as if we can maybe get a goal again now, which is very encouraging.

"We have a big game on Tuesday night against QPR and we will try to get ourselves prepared for that."

And the Ulsterman refused to criticise goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for his howler just before half-time.

"Simon has been fantastic for us, absolutely fantastic. He is entitled to something like that now and again.

"It's absolutely and utterly out of character. It just slipped out. He has been terrific for us," added O'Neill.
