Manchester City's Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday night was further compounded by the news that Vincent Kompany could be sidelined for a significant period of time.

City managed to hold Real to a 1-1 draw with Sergio Aguero cancelling out Karim Benzema's first half strike from the penalty spot, but the point wasn't enough to prevent Roberto Mancini's side from crashing out of Europe's elite competition at the group stages for the second year running.
Kompany, who picked up a knock in the second half, left the Etihad Stadium on crutches, although he did complete the match.
The Belgium international was naturally disappointed to have seen his side eliminated but insisted they will only come back stronger.
"The opportunity to claim our place at the top of European football will come again.
"No sad faces, just the hunger to improve, " he revealed on his Twitter account.
Mancini, meanwhile, feels his job remains safe, and is not worried about facing the same fate that Roberto Di Matteo suffered at Chelsea.
He said: "No. I don't fear this. Why?
"We still have the Premier League and the FA Cup.
"If we think we can win the Champions League after two years, we are crazy.
"Chelsea tried to win Champions League for 10 years.
"In the best moments, when Didier Drogba was young, they didn't win.
"They did it last year when no-one thought they could.
"We need to improve our team because there are a lot of teams better than us.
"I am not saying if you get to February you can't win. Anything can happen. But we didn't do that."
