Villas-Boas: One foot in next round

Tottenham will be looking to all but secure their progression from the Europa League group stages when they take on Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening.

Spurs currently sit second in Group J, with six points after their opening four matches, two points behind their upcoming opponents and two above third-placed NK Maribor.

That means a win for Andre Villas-Boas' side could take them beyond the reach of Slovenian club, depending on their result against basement side Panathinaikos, who are already out of the running to progress.

However, Tottenham will first need to put behind them their 5-2 defeat to bitter north London rivals Arsenal at the weekend, a result which left the White Hart Lane outfit eighth in the standings, seven points below the top four.

Spurs should be boosted by the availability of Moussa Dembele, while Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to be given a start, considering he faces a three-match domestic ban for his red card against the Gunners.

Lazio, meanwhile, have no new injury or suspension concerns, with Miroslav Klose expected to lead the line up front as a lone striker.
