Burak Yilmaz scored the only goal at the Turk Telecom Arena to help Galatasaray move closer to qualification from Group H alongside first-placed Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson named United's third youngest ever side to play in the Champions League and they made a shaky start in Turkey.

Yilmaz saw an early long range effort spilled by Anders Lindegaard before his glancing header from a free-kick flew dangerously over the crossbar, while Selcuk Inan had a penalty appeal turned down when his cross struck the arm of Alexander Buttner.

Manchester United almost took the lead when Phil Jones was beaten to Anderson's cross by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, while they should have gone ahead on the stroke of half-time when Champions League debutant Nick Powell headed Tom Cleverley's corner onto the crossbar.

Galatasaray came out after half-time fired up and Felipe Melo forced an incredible point blank range out of Lindegaard after 53 minutes.

The home side went ahead from the resulting corner as Yilmaz beat Darren Fletcher to Inan's cross to nod the ball home from six-yards.

United never really looked like getting back into the game and almost went two goals behind when Hamit Altintop's incredible 35-yard effort came back off the underside of the crossbar.

United have already qualified from Group H and Galatasaray are now favourites to progress into the knockout stages with them.

The Turkish giants travel to bottom-club Braga while Manchester United host CFR Cluj in the final Group H game in two weeks' time.
