Chelsea's CL hopes now hang by a fine thread

Chelsea's hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages took a massive blow as they were ripped apart by Juventus in Turin on Tuesday night.

The Italians fired a warning shot on five minutes as Petr Cech had to tip a Stephan Lichtsteiner shot onto the post, but Chelsea did then have a glorious chance to go ahead.

On nine minutes Oscar went on a mazy run and slid in Eden Hazard, who had the chance to finish from close range but Gianluigi Buffon deflected it wide.

From then on Juventus dominated the game and had strikes from Fabio Quagliarella and Mirko Vucinic saved before they went ahead on 38 minutes.

A long-range strike from Andrea Pirlo was deflected by Quagliarella and it wrong-footed Cech to find its way into the net.

Moments later, a defensive mix-up saw Ashley Cole having to clear off his own goal-line. In the second half it was more Juve pressure and it was no shock when they doubled their lead on 61 minutes.

Good play by Kwadwo Asamoah saw him pull the ball back to Arturo Vidal, whose shot went in off the heel of Ramires.

Vucinic missed a glorious chance to score on 75 minutes and in injury time substitute Sebastian Giovinco beat the on-rushing Cech to the ball to slide it past the keeper into the net and give Juve a three-goal win.

The defending champions will now need help from elsewhere in the final round of games if they hope to progress to the knock-out stages.
