Stoke dominated the early stages and Charlie Adam and Peter Crouch had good efforts before they went ahead with 13 minutes on the clock.

A well-rehearsed corner kick routine bamboozled the Hammers defence and ended with Walters meeting a low corner first-time to bury the ball in the back of the net.

Stoke almost doubled their lead on 38 minutes as Steven N'Zonzi saw a powerful strike come back off the underside of the bar and back out into play.

After the break West Ham came out all guns blazing and the game was level on 47 minutes as O'Brien scored his first ever Premier League goal.

Gary O'Neill put the ball in from the right and the defender met it perfectly to draw the Hammers back level.

West Ham dominated much of the second half, with Modibo Maiga and O'Neill going close as the game went on, but they failed to carve out any more clear-cut opportunities and the points ended up shared in east London.
