Several of La Paillade's players confronted journalist Jose Barroso after their 1-1 draw at the Stade du Hainaut to voice their displeasure over an article he had written for French sports daily L'Equipe earlier in the week.
Jeunechamp is reported to have lost his cool and lashed out at Barroso, punching him in the face.
The Ligue 1 champions have now offered an apology to the reporter and confirmed that the 36-year-old right-back will be dealt with by the club.
A statement from MHSC read: "Following the incident ... involving Cyril Jeunechamp, Montpellier are keen to apologise to the reporter from L'Equipe.
"The club firmly condemn this behaviour and will consider repercussions."
The Union of Sports Journalists in France could pursue legal action against Jeunechamp after also taking taking umbrage to his conduct.
"This behaviour on the part of a professional football player is totally unacceptable and intolerable," they said in a statement.
