Hernandez: Major doubt

Swansea's record signing Pablo Hernandez is a major doubt ahead of Saturday's clash with Newcastle at the Sports Direct Arena.

The £5.5m recruit from Valencia has scored twice in seven starts for the Welsh outfit and has brought some quality to the Swans midfield following the departure of Joe Allen to Liverpool.

Fellow newcomer Chico Flores is expected to return from a dead leg, but Leon Britton is less likely as he struggles to shake off a knock.

Ki Sung-Yueng has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Kemy Agustien is facing a race against time to shake off his toe injury.

Should both be unavailable, manager Michael Laudrup could hand Itay Shechter a start upfront.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have concerns of their own, but not all of them are injury-related.

Senegal could invoke FIFA's five-day rule which would render Papiss Cisse unavailable for the weekend's encounter.

The African nation claim the Toon did not notify them of the striker's back injury which prevented him from joining up with the squad for the midweek friendly against Niger.

Meanwhile, Yohan Cabaye (groin), Jonas Gutierrez (knee), James Perch (thigh) and suspended skipper Fabricio Coloccini all miss out for the Magpies.

But manager Alan Pardew will be delighted that his hardman Cheick Tiote is back from a three-match ban while Demba Ba and Danny Simpson are back in the fold, having recovered sufficiently from respective shin and shoulder injuries.

Both sides have been a model of inconsistency and will be looking to generate some momentum to improve their fortunes.
