Madrid head into the weekend's clash trailing leaders Barcelona by eight points, while the gap between them and second-placed Atletico Madrid is five.

Los Merengues are unbeaten in the Primera Division since September 15, with their 2-1 victory at Levante last Sunday their fourth successive win.

The 12th-placed Los Leones, however, are on a winning streak of their own, a 2-1 triumph over Sevilla last time out having made it two on the trot for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

In team news, Real boss Jose Mourinho received a boost on the injury front with Karim Benzema having resumed training after a spell on the sidelines.

Benzema is set to come straight into the match-day squad, but fellow striker Gonzalo Higuain is still ruled out due to injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo should also be available despite having sustained a nasty eye injury against the Granotas which required six stitches.

Meanwhile, Bielsa's has reported no new injury concerns for the trip to the capital.

However, he's had his hands full dismissing speculation that Spain forward Fernando Llorente is set for a departure for either Tottenham or Juventus in January.
