The SFA are looking for a new boss following the sacking of Craig Levein earlier this month. They have earmarked having a new manager confirmed before the World Cup qualifier against Wales in March.
And while Coyle has said he will not be applying for a post, he is ready and waiting for an approach.
Speaking on Sky Sports 1's Footballers' Football Show, the Scotsman said: "Any job I've had people have come because I've never applied for a job.
"Geoff Brown [St Johnstone chairman] came to me when I was playing at Airdrie as assistant manager, Burnley approached me and Bolton obviously came for me when i was at Burnley so I've been very fortunate in that respect.
"So if somebody wants to come and speak to me of course I am always open. I have turned down a couple of things in the last couple of weeks because I didn't think they were the right thing for me at this time.
"At the end of the day whatever happens, I know I am ready for the next challenge when it comes about."
