The England international is in the final 12 months of his Red Devils contract but has yet to pen an extension, suggesting he might be angling for a move away from the Premier League giants.
Ferguson has made no secret of his desire to retain the centre-back's services, and Ferdinand says his manager's faith in him comes as a big boost to his morale.
"It is always good to hear the manager say things like that," Ferdinand told Inside United.
"But you have to take every week and month as it comes. The best thing I can do is to look at it at Christmas, and then again in the summer, to see how I'm feeling.
"But hearing the manager say things like that definitely puts a spring back in your step."
