The 45-year-old was appointed to the Samp hotseat in July and made a flying start to his reign, guiding his side to three successive victories on their return to the Italian top flight.

However, the Genoa outfit have since endured a torrid run of results, with Sunday's 2-0 reverse to Palermo making it seven defeats on the trot.

It led to a protest from supporters as around 50 Ultras staged a sit-in, which prevented the team bus from departing Genoa's Christopher Columbus airport, although it ended without incident after police stepped in.

Ferrara, though, insists he is not about to walk out on the club, who are perched just above the relegation zone in 17th place on 10 points.

"I take responsibility for this situation, and I am the one who must find the right key to solving it," he told Sky Italia.

"Will I resign? No, it is not the right gesture to make."
